Mockery

Luke 22:66-71
66 At daybreak the council of the elders of the people, both the chief priests and the teachers of the law, met together, and Jesus was led before them. 67 ‘If you are the Messiah,’ they said, ‘tell us.’ Jesus answered, ‘If I tell you, you will not believe me, 68 and if I asked you, you would not answer.69 But from now on, the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the mighty God.’ 70 They all asked, ‘Are you then the Son of God?’ He replied, ‘You say that I am.’ 71 Then they said, ‘Why do we need any more testimony? We have heard it from his own lips.’
Two things struck me – the narrow mindedness of the scribes and high priest and the anger I felt against them. The whole interrogation of Jesus by the High Priest was a mockery. Their minds were made up. They didn’t even give Jesus a chance. The die had been set. Jesus knew what had to be done.
There was no resistance – I wonder am I too much like those high priests, just asking questions or seeming to be interested in what some else thinks or feels, but already having my mind made up? What might happen if I had an open mind to what others think and say?
Father, help me to see things the way you see them. Send me wisdom to be open- minded to the needs of others. Give me compassion to help others when I can. Keep me from being too quick to act.
