What kind of vessel am I?

2 Timothy 2: 20-21

20 In a large house there are articles not only of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay; some are for special purposes and some for common use. 21Those who cleanse themselves from the latter will be instruments for special purposes, made holy, useful to the Master and prepared to do any good work.

How is God using me? This scripture helps me reflect that even though I know God uses people with impressive abilities and gifts, they are not the only ones God can use. I too am a vessel that God can use. The vessel that is made of wood or clay is often broken and chipped for everyday use. I would like to say I am a noble & distinguished vessel, without blemishes. Only Jesus is without blemish. In fact, I am an ordinary, everyday kind. I am broken & chipped. My vessel holds a treasure, the Lord, the Christ. His light can shine through the cracks of my ordinary vessel. It is in the struggles of life that I can learn and let others see God in my heart. Jesus chose the lowly, who are small in the world to serve him. In my weakness, he becomes strong. How appropriate, Lord, that Lent is here now. A time to mend, to purify. Give me the courage my Lord, to purify this vessel that I am. Let me rise with you at Easter a new vessel. Thank you my God, for your constant presence and your loving caress. I love you, Amen.
